Dear Lafayette Community,

Welcome to the 2021-2022 school year! I hope that you all have had an enjoyable summer and have taken time to do the things that you most enjoy with family and friends.  I am very much looking forward to welcoming all of our students to campus in a few short weeks.

As we all know, last year was a year unlike any other, especially in the world of education.  Eureka City Schools is excited to be back to in-person learning for the 2021-2022 school year. The District will be following the most up-to-date Humboldt County Public Health guidelines regarding Covid-19. Please take note that breakfast will no longer be served before school. Students will be given a pre-packaged breakfast during their morning recess break.  Breakfast and lunch are free to all Eureka City School students regardless of income.

Our daily school schedule will look a little different this year.  We plan to adhere to a full day schedule that is as follows:  TK-3rd: 8:10 am- 2:12 pm and 4th-5th: 8:10 am-2:37 pm, with the exception of Mondays, these will be early release days:  TK-3rd: 8:10 am to 1:25 pm and 4th-5th: 8:10 am-2:00 pm. The Lafayette campus will open at 8 AM daily.

Lafayette has some staffing changes for the 2021-2022 school year. We welcome Marissa Cardenas and Gabrielle Carroll as new primary teachers and Andrea Sterling as our Resource Specialist. Additionally, Mckenna Leclair will be teaching our new Pre-K/TK class. Lucee Ivanov will be teaching 4th grade this year and Mai Lee will be teaching a 4th/5th combination. Harmony Pelren will be teaching Math Intervention at both Grant and Lafayette, and Hope von Werlhof will be our English Learner Specialist.

PTA will be sponsoring a “Lollipop Posting” on Friday, August 20th from 2:45-3:45 pm at Lafayette Elementary School. Come drive through with your child and check out the class lists, enjoy a lollipop treat! Please note on your calendar that August 23rd is the first day of school.

I would love to encourage everyone to please take every opportunity to become involved in our Lafayette School Family-- this could be through volunteering, joining our PTA, or attending and supporting school events. Please Like Lafayette Elementary School on Facebook to receive updates regarding upcoming events.  We also use our website as another way to share information.

Moving into this new school year, we will continue to be flexible and responsive to the needs of our community. As principal, my door is always open and I welcome your input. Please feel free to schedule an appointment with me through our school secretary, to discuss any concerns, suggestions, or ideas you would like to share to help make this the best year yet!
