24-25 PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Dear Lafayette Community,

Greetings as we embark on the 2024-2025 school year! I hope your summer was filled with joy and that you had the chance to enjoy time with loved ones. I am eagerly looking forward to welcoming all our students back to campus in just a few short weeks!

Last year, we embraced a new school motto selected by our students: Lafayette Elementary--Heart of a Lion, Mind of a Scholar!  As we open this new year, I am excited to continue to align our program with these words. We are dedicated to fostering a safe and nurturing educational environment for all children that inspires a love of learning. We also embrace a Culture of Kindness at Lafayette Elementary, taking pride in treating each other with respect, empathy, and understanding. As our three school rules state: At Lafayette we strive to “Be Safe, Be Respectful, and Be Responsible!” Thank you for continuing to support us in these efforts!

Please note that there have been some small changes to our school hours. The regular school day runs from 8:10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., with an early dismissal at 1:43 p.m. on Mondays to allow for staff collaboration. The Lafayette bell schedule, which provides detailed start and end times, can be found by clicking here.

Please take note of some specific dates to keep in mind over the next few weeks:

  • August 16th - Popsicle Posting from 2:30-3:15/Stop by the front of the school to see class lists
  • August 19th - First day of school (Monday early release time of 1:43 pm)
  • September 3rd through the 13th - School Site Council Elections
  • September 2nd - Labor Day/No School
  • September 5th - Back To School Night (6:00-7:00 pm)
  • September 17th through the 20th - Family Empathy Interviews/Minimum Days (12:55 dismissal)
  • October 7th - Picture Day
  • October 11th - No School/Staff Development Day

I would like to welcome the following new staff to Lafayette:

  • Tami Davies Hughes/1st grade
  • Stacy Jewell/4th grade
  • Andrew Pierce/5th grade
  • Sarah Moschetti/Speech Language Pathologist
  • Julie Rausch/Specialized Academic Instructor
  • Shakira Reyes/Community Schools Liaison
  • Jennifer Oliphant/School Social Worker

Staff returning to Lafayette, but with a changed assignment:

  • Jade Reano/4th-5th grade combination class

We will be working hard to increase attendance this year and lower our number of tardy arrivals.  This will be a school wide focus and I look forward to seeing gains across grade levels!  Any students arriving after 8:10 a.m. need to stop by the Office for a tardy slip. The Lafayette Cafeteria will be open daily starting at 7:45 a.m. and the rest of the campus will open for all students at 8:00 a.m.  Breakfast will be served daily and is free for all students. I hope that you will take every opportunity to become involved with our Lafayette School Community, through volunteering in a variety of ways such as: joining our PTA, School Site Council, ELAC, and PBIS team, or attending and supporting school events. Please "Follow" Lafayette Elementary on Facebook to receive updates regarding upcoming events. You may also review updates and information here on the school website at lafayette.eurekacityschools.org.

Research clearly supports that when parents/guardians participate and are involved in their child’s education, there is a greater likelihood of academic success for the child!

As we step into this exciting new year, we're committed to staying flexible and attentive to the needs of our community. As your principal, I'm here for you and eager to hear your thoughts. Please don’t hesitate to schedule a time to meet with me through our school secretary. I look forward to discussing any ideas, suggestions, or concerns you might have to help make this our best year yet!

  See you soon,

Quincy Brownfield, Principal
